ADHD without medication - what options are there in Linz?
In short: Alongside medication, there are several approaches that can support children, adolescents and adults with ADHD in everyday life. These include parent training, behavioural therapy, neurofeedback, and deliberately shaping structure and physical activity. Which path fits depends on the individual situation. That is why a professional assessment should always come first.
First step: a professional assessment
Difficulties with concentration, restlessness or impulsivity can have many causes. A reliable diagnosis is made by specialists in child and adolescent psychiatry or by clinical psychologists. Only then can you decide which support fits, with or without medication.

What options are there without medication?
-
Psychoeducation and parent training: Parents understand what is going on for their child and learn strategies for everyday life, homework and conflicts.
-
Skills: Children, adolescents and adults practise organisation, self-management and coping with frustration.
-
Neurofeedback: A training in which the nervous system learns to regulate itself better.
-
Structure, sleep and exercise: Clear routines, enough sleep and regular physical activity have a noticeable effect on concentration and mood.
With more pronounced ADHD, combining medication with these approaches can make sense. This decision is best made together with your treating doctor.
ILF neurofeedback at my practice in Linz-Urfahr
I work with ILF neurofeedback following the Othmer method. Brain activity is measured via sensors on the scalp. Your child watches a film during the session, and feedback is given automatically through image and sound. Your child does not need to control anything consciously or "get it right".The electrodes are used for measurement only; no current is applied. Settings are continuously adjusted to your child's responses, and parents are involved throughout the process.
How strongly and how quickly things change varies from person to person.
Important: Neurofeedback does not replace medical treatment. I see it as complementary support for self-regulation.
