FAQ

What is psychological counselling?

Psychological counselling provides a safe space to better understand difficult situations, thoughts and feelings and to develop new perspectives and ways of responding.

Depending on your concerns, counselling may include practical strategies for everyday life, work with thoughts and behavioural patterns, and stabilisation or body-oriented techniques in addition to conversation.

We decide individually which form of support is most appropriate for your situation.

What is ILF Neurofeedback and how does it work?

ILF Neurofeedback (Infra-Low-Frequency Neurofeedback) is a form of neurofeedback in which brain activity is recorded via electrodes placed on the scalp and used to provide continuous feedback.

During training, you or your child receive ongoing feedback through changes in image and sound. The aim of the training is to support self-regulatory processes in the central nervous system.

The settings are individually adjusted according to how you or your child respond to the training.

The electrodes are used only for measurement – no electrical current is delivered to the brain.

Who might find ILF-Neurofeedback relevant?

ILF Neurofeedback may be of interest when self-regulation is becoming increasingly difficult – for example with persistent inner restlessness and tension, sleep problems, stress, anxiety or difficulties with attention and concentration.

For me, the focus is not solely on a diagnosis. What matters are the individual concerns, existing difficulties and response to the training.

We can clarify during the initial consultation whether ILF Neurofeedback may be suitable for you or your child.

Is ILF-Neurofeedback suitable for children and adolescents?

Yes. Neurofeedback with children and adolescents is a particular focus of my practice.

Children and adolescents who come to me include those with ADHD, attention and concentration difficulties, restlessness, impulsivity or difficulties with self-regulation – sometimes following a recommendation from a doctor or psychologist.

The training can be designed in a child-friendly way. During the session, the child can, for example, watch a film and does not need to consciously control anything or 'get it right'.

The settings are individually adjusted and parents are involved in the process.

Do I need a diagnosis or referral for ILF Neurofeedback?

No. You do not need a medical referral or diagnosis for neurofeedback training in my practice.

Especially for children and adolescents, neurofeedback may also be recommended by doctors or psychologists. If reports or diagnoses are already available, they can be helpful in assessing the individual situation.

For health or psychological concerns, neurofeedback can provide support, but it does not replace necessary medical assessment or treatment.

What happens during an ILF Neurofeedback session?

At the beginning, electrodes are placed on specific areas of the scalp to record brain activity.

During training, you or your child sit comfortably in front of a screen and, for example, watch a film. Continuous feedback is provided through changes in image and sound.

You do not need to consciously control, practise or get anything right. The training settings are selected individually and adjusted over time according to your responses.

The electrodes only measure – they do not deliver electrical current to the brain.

How many ILF Neurofeedback sessions are useful?

Neurofeedback is generally designed as a training process over several sessions. In my practice, I often begin with blocks of 10 sessions.

It is not possible to determine a fixed total number or frequency of sessions in advance. This depends on the individual concerns and on how you or your child respond to the training.

Progress is therefore reviewed regularly and the next steps are adjusted individually.

Are sessions also available online?

Psychological counselling is available both in person at my practice in 4040 Linz-Urfahr and online.

ILF Neurofeedback takes place in person at my practice because it requires the appropriate technical equipment as well as individual adjustment and support during training.

If you are not yet sure which form of support might be right for you or your child, we can clarify this together during the initial consultation.
